What Not to Do at a Gun Store

gun store employee probably has a more extensive knowledge

Every type of store has its own social etiquette and rules when shopping there, and gun stores are no different.  Whether you are overly ambitious or too sheepish when entering a gun store, it is important to know how to behave yourself when inside. Here are a few tips and tricks for getting the best and safest experience from a gun store.

  • Safety: Know the proper way to handle a gun before handling one in a gun store. Don’t point it around or rest your finger on the trigger, even if you are certain it is unloaded. Do not be overzealous when handling any firearm, and especially do not handle a gun poorly when in a gun store.
  • Act Like A Know-It-All: While you may be very experienced and knowledgeable about guns, the gun store employee probably has a more extensive knowledge due to their line of work. And even if you are more knowledgeable, the purchase experience does not improve simply by being rude to the employee trying to help you. They are there to give insight and information, so use it!
  • Be Ineligible to Buy a Gun: If you are legally not able to purchase a gun, don’t try to. Make sure you have the right certifications to purchase a gun where you live before you attempt to buy one. They will not sell you a gun if you are not legally allowed to own one.
  • Not Ask Questions: If you are uncertain about something, ask questions! The employees are very knowledgeable and are glad to help you with your purpose. They are an invaluable resource, so you might as well use them!

Don’t be afraid of going to a gun store, but also be aware of how to make the experience a good one.
