What Type of Awning is Best for You?

There are many types of awnings you can install in your yard, and it can be hard to know which one is right for you. Here is a short guide on the basic types of awnings you can purchase, and the pros and cons of each.

awning

Stationary: This type of awning is a permanently installed canopy. These are typically very strong and stable but do have to withstand all weather conditions because of its permanency. It can hold snow or be hit by strong winds, so if you live in a place with harsh weather then this may not be the right awning for you.

Retractable: This type of awning looks a lot like a stationary awning, but can be folded or rolled in. This is a great choice of awning if certain times of year harsh weather conditions are imminent, and a stationary awning may struggle.

Electric Motorized: These awning act and look almost identical to a retractable awning, but do not require manual labor. These awnings roll themselves out using a remote or can even have a sensor to detect rain and roll out automatically. They are very luxurious in the awning world but do command a premium price over other types of awnings. If you are looking for the best of the best, this is the awning for you.

Portable: These awnings are great for a person who does not want an awning up most of the year or struggles to combat the location of the sun. Because these awnings are portable they can be taken down entirely or moved around to better block the sun. They are a great option for someone who wants an awning but does not want to spend the money on a stationary or retractable awning. One downside is they typically are not as stable or sturdy as an installed awning, which may be a drawback for many consumers.
