How to Prep Your Air Conditioning for Warm Weather

While maybe not as intense as winterizing your home in a frozen climate, there are some things you can do to prepare your air conditioning for the summer. You want to make sure your air conditioning system is working as well as it can before the hot summer days start rolling in. Here are a few things you can do to make sure your air conditioning is prepared.

  • Filters: Replacing, or sometimes cleaning, your air filters are essential tov proper airflow. You should change every 6 months, but before summer starts you should check all of them to see if they’re too dusty.
  • Covers: Make sure to take off the condenser covers if you put them on. It is not recommended to cover them, other than just the top to prevent snow from falling in, but if they are still there making sure to take them off.
  • Clean Condenser: From here, you should make sure your condenser is clear and clean. Do not do this before turning off your breaker, so you can avoid the electricity. From here you can wash out the condenser coils if they have been backed up and remove any debris so the system can run smoothly.
  • Check: If you want to see if it is running, turn your thermostat off, turn your power back on, then set the air conditioner to cool. From here you can see if the air is blowing without obstruction and if your condenser is working as it should.

No one wants their air conditioning to fail on them right when they need it. Make sure to get your air conditioning system working and clear before the summer starts so you can have it work all summer long.
