5 Common Ways for Water Damage to Occur

Water damage is a common type of damage for homes when you consider how much water falls on or runs through the home. The question then becomes what is causing the water damage in these homes? Here are 5 of the most common ways that water damage occurs in homes.

  1. Appliances: Things that use running water may end up leaking water into harder to reach places, such as the back of a dishwasher or fridge. This can lead to water damage without you realizing.
  2. Pipes: Pipes get old and damaged like anything else, except pipes have access to a lot of water. A burst pipe can lead to a lot of water damage when it lets out a lot of water into your walls.
  3. Weather: Water will literally fall from the sky onto your home, and if your home is not properly sealed it can cause water damage. Whether this be through the floor along the bottom of your walls or through your roof water can get into your home and warp and damage it.
  4. Slab Leak: Much like a burst pipe a slab leak will damage your home when a pipe break. Slab leaks can destroy your foundation, flooring, and other things in your home as water soaks upwards from the floor.
  5. Plumbing: An overflowing sink or toilet is an inconvenience, but it can be disastrous if it causes water damage. Be cautious about plumbing leaking water into your home because that can be bad for your home.

Water damage is hard to predict and expensive to deal with. Make sure to be aware of all of the places where water damage can occur so you can prevent it or stop it when it starts.
