There are a lot of misconceptions about concealed carry and the laws surrounding it. Here are a few things to be aware of when concealed carrying, so you do not end up in legal hot water.
- Do I need a Permit? Many states do not require a permit to concealed carry, however, some do. Make sure to research whether the state you are in requires a permit to concealed carry.
- Brandishing: Be careful about how visible your weapon is. Whether it can be easily exposed, or the outline can be seen, people may see this as a threat. Be aware of how people may react to you concealed carrying.
- Government Properties: Places such as post offices or schools are no gun zones. This means that guns cannot be taken onto the property, and that even applies to storing the gun in your vehicle. Be careful where you take your concealed carry weapon because having a gun in a no gun zone can lead to serious legal trouble.
- No Gun Businesses: Watch for if a business has a “no guns allowed” sign. In some states, it is acceptable to enter and be asked to leave, but in some states, it is illegal to miss the sign and enter regardless. Make sure to check your state laws before accidentally entering a no gun zone without being aware it is a no gun zone.
Concealed carry laws can be complicated, so make sure to research your specific state before doing it. While in some cases ignorance can pass, in other cases ignorance may be cause for legal trouble. Be well informed about where and how you can conceal carry before doing so.
