However, no matter how hard they try to earn your business, they can be exposed for fraudsters. Here are a few red flags you may see when looking at plumbing companies that will tell you they are not trustworthy.
- Estimates Without Information: It is incredibly difficult to guess the amount of labor required for a job without seeing it firsthand. Anyone that gives you estimates without details may be using it as an opportunity to gouge you on prices.
- Licenses: Plumbing companies working without licenses may cost less, but the risk may also be financially detrimental. Make sure the plumbing company you hire has all of the licenses and insurance required to operate safely.
- Solicitation: If the plumber contacts you or shows up without an invitation, then they most likely are not reputable. Make sure to research your plumbers before allowing a random plumber to work on your pipes.
- High Initial Rates: A plumber that has incredibly high starting rates with additional hours costing less is most likely not planning on staying very long. They may end up taking shortcuts and doing only 1 or 2 hours of labor to maximize the high starting rates.
- Proper Tools: While not all plumbers are required to have high tech equipment, they should at least be using modern tools. They should have a whole van or truck full of tools, so they can do the job correctly.
While hiring budget-oriented plumbing companies is a good idea, you should be weary of shady companies that use these tricks. Make sure to seek out reputable companies that don’t try to pull tricks on you with their services.
