Opening up your pool after a long off-season can be exciting, but there is always work to be done for a pool opening. There are some things you need to do for the pool opening to get it ready for the upcoming use. Here are 7 steps to make sure your pool opening goes as smoothly as possible.
- Pool Cover: Hopefully, you put a cover on your pool for the cold months, so make sure to remove, clean, and properly store the cover for next time you need it.
- Clean the Pool: While hopefully the cover worked well to keep the pool clean, some things may have gotten in. Make sure to brush the walls and skim the surface to clean anything that is still there.
- Un-winterize Your Pipes: If you installed any plugs to winterize your pools pipes, now would be the time to remove them.
- Filter: Start your pool filter running to get the water moving and do some cleaning. It can be a good idea to run it. Also check to see if it is running properly so you can replace it now rather than next time you want to use the pool.
- Clean Filters and Baskets: The skimmer baskets and filters may be dirty, so you should empty out the baskets and get to cleaning the filters to start the season off right.
- Fill it Up: Some water may be lost, so you should bring up the water level to a more normal spot.
- Chemicals: Now is the time to balance out your pH and add chemicals as needed. It is recommended that you shock your pool now, as well.
There are a lot of things to do for a pool opening, so make sure you start the season out right by following these steps.
