Once you finally find the correct material and design for your new kitchen countertops, it can be difficult to choose the last detail: edge type. There are so many different edge types available for your kitchen countertops that it can be hard to know which one is right for you. Here are some pros and cons of a few different edge types.
- Square: A square edge on your countertops is simple and does not have frills. It can be striking, modernist and often works best with modern color schemes like white countertops. However, it can look odd in some applications, and can be painful for young children who may run into it.
- Bullnose: This edge is incredibly simple and common. It curves around the entire edge and looks great on almost every countertop, especially granite and similar grained kitchen countertops. The only downside is it may lack visual interest.
- Half Bullnose: A half bullnose curves at the top and is pointed at the bottom; thus, the half. It features pros similar to the full bullnose, such as similar design perks, but maybe dangerous for children. One distinct advantage over the full is that spilled liquids will fall to the ground over the corner rather than flow around the curve to the cabinets.
- Eased: An eased edge is like a half bullnose, but with less rounding. This makes it retain similar perks, such as a smooth edge, but with some of the stylistic elements of the square edge. It is not as stark as the square edge but is more comfortable to lean on due to there not being a sharp edge along the top.
There are as many different edge types as one could imagine. It can be difficult to find a proper edge type for your kitchen countertops, but thinking about the pros and cons and comparing it to your lifestyle can help you decide which edge type is right for your kitchen countertops.
