Becoming a plumber can be a very rewarding career choice, especially for those who do not want to go to college for 4 or more years. Having an aptitude for working with your hands and having an interest in actually doing so are the only criteria for getting started as a plumber. How far one takes their career is up to them. The ultimate goal for many is to become a master plumber.
In order to become a certified plumber, it is necessary to get the classroom training required in the state in which you plan to work. Each state dictates the courses needed as well as a total number of hours that must be completed successfully.
Once the classroom training is completed, the task then becomes to be hired as an apprentice. This is where the bulk of the training will actually happen. Many apprentices look to local plumbers unions to get started.
