It is really startling to consider that, although mankind has been around for thousands of years, the modern idea of indoor plumbing is an infant in comparison. Eventually, the immigrants who settled America and their descendants went from chamber pots to outhouses to indoor plumbing, but it took much longer than many people realize.
Oddly enough, the first idea of an indoor water closet was actually presented over 2,800 years ago in Crete by King Minos, but when the palace was destroyed, it was gone, and nobody thought about it for hundreds of years. Even when it came up again, it wasn’t popular because they hadn’t yet figured out how to deal with odors and water movement.
