When the weather turns cold, we want to make sure that our homes are nice and warm. But there are things that you can do without taxing your heating system too much (or without putting on layers of clothing, though that helps). Here are some tips that you can use to get the most out of your heating this winter.
Remember the Pet Doors
Pet doors can cause drafts. Even though you can’t completely avoid them, you can lessen them using weather stripping or a heavy piece of cloth on each side. Remember you should also weatherstrip around the pet door if it’s in a pane that you can remove in your sliding glass door.
Don’t Overuse Exhaust Fans
Running your kitchen or bathroom exhaust fan even for an hour can reduce your home’s warmth. Try not to use them too much or turn the fan off quickly when it’s been used. You would be amazed at how much of a difference it makes in keeping your home warm in winter.
Reverse the Ceiling Fans
The majority of ceiling fans can be reversed for winter. When you reverse the fan blades, it will draw heat down from your ceiling and stop it from going through your walls or roof. It can make a huge difference.
These are three things that you can do to help you with getting the most out of your heating system this winter. Give them a try and see how much cozier your house is this wintertime.
