As your furnace ages you may wonder if it becomes worth repairing every time it breaks. At some point it stops being worth it to do furnace repair, but it can be very hard to know at what point furnace repair will cost more than its worth. Here are a few ways to know if you need to replace your furnace or do furnace repair.
- Too Many Repairs: One good way to know if your furnace is at the end of its life is if it is having multiple repairs within just a few years. It should be able to last a couple winters at least before needing to be repaired again.
- Age: If your furnace is 15-20 years you may want to consider getting it replaced. If it is this old it may be at the end of its life, so you should be wary of it breaking down to often and replacing it when you think its time has come.
- Increased Utilities: When you find that your utilities are higher even when your furnace is working properly, it may be time to get a new unit. A new unit will be able to run more efficiently.
- Struggling to Maintain Heat: If your heater works incredibly hard, and inconsistently to heat your home it may be time for a new furnace. A proper working furnace will be able to run on a consistent schedule and keep the temperature at one level.
Buying an entirely new furnace can be expensive, but sometimes it is cost-effective when compared to repeated furnace repair.
