It doesn’t take long for pollen and dust to clog up porch screens – and pollen and dust are two things that can cause allergy issues for anyone who likes sitting outside on their porches. Fortunately, simple cleaning will keep pollen and dust off your screens, so you can continue enjoying your outdoor space.
1. Vacuum as much of the pollen and dust off the screens as you can. This is going to make scrubbing a lot easier. You’ll need to use your vacuum’s hose attachment.
2. Put a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid in a bucket filled with warm water. Dip a scrub brush into it and lightly scrub the porch screens. Note: Don’t scrub too hard, or you could stretch the screen material.
3. Squirt water through the screens to rinse them. Do this with the garden hose or use a squirt bottle. Either way, make sure to spray from the inside out.
4. If mold is a problem in your home, use a pump sprayer. Fill it with water and a cup of bleach. Again, spray from the inside out, so as not to soak your patio or porch. These pumps are available at most home improvement/hardware stores. If you have a power washer, you can use this instead of a pump sprayer.
5. Repeat step 2.
