Almost everyone enjoys shopping for clothes and even make a whole day of it. But for some it can be a stressful experience, perhaps due to a tendency to overspend or due to some level of social anxiety. If you are part of those who feel some stress while clothes shopping, here are five tips you can keep in mind the next time you go shopping:
1. Set a budget. For many people, clothes shopping starts out as a happy, fun experience then ends in regret due to overspending. To avoid this, set a realistic budget. Having a specific number to work with will make it easier to plan your shopping trip and avoid overspending.
2. Keep a list. Just like with buying groceries, keep a list of clothing items that you need or want so that you can stick to getting only what you’re actually looking for. Of course, don’t expect to complete your list in one shopping trip. It may take some time to find everything, but having a list will help take the stress out of updating your wardrobe.
3. Try multiple sizes. When you are shopping for clothes and you find something you like, don’t be shy to grab the item in your size as well as one size above and below. You can also try a few different colors. Take the time you need in the fitting room to make sure you’re getting the item in the size and color that suit you best. Avoid the stress of getting home and then realizing an item doesn’t fit well or look good on you.
4. Bring a friend. Having a friend around while clothes shopping not only makes it more fun, but also makes it easier because there’s a second opinion to help you make a decision if you’re unsure about a certain item. Ask your friend or family remember whose fashion sense you admire; they’ll likely feel flattered at your invitation!
5. Shop online. If you find in-person shopping to be stressful, you can do your clothes shopping online instead. There are now many websites and apps to choose from. Some also offer free returns and exchanges. It’s definitely more convenient because you can do it from the comfort of your home. Just be careful to stick to your budget and get only what you actually want or need.
