A well-maintained transmission is essential to help your car drive at any given speed. To avoid a costly transmission replacement, there are certain things that indicate you may need transmission repair at the auto repairs shop.
- Transmission Fluid: Without enough clean transmission fluid, your transmission can’t function properly. Use the transmission dipstick in your car to check the levels. If the levels are low, add more, but be aware that this may also be a sign of a leak, so keep a watch out for drips. When you check your fluid, you’ll want to see a transparent, pinkish-red color. If the fluid is brown, black, or has bits of dirt or metal in it, then you need new transmission fluid. This may also be an indicator of needed transmission repair.
- Burning Smell or Overheating: Overheating could be a sign that your transmission may not have enough transmission fluid or a number of other problems. An experienced auto repairs shop can help you determine what’s going wrong.
- Leaks: A great way to determine where a leak is coming from is to place a few pieces of cardboard under your car when it’s parked. When you slide the cardboard back out, you can identify more closely where the leak is and pass that on to one of our technicians.
- Grinding Gears: If you have an automatic transmission, your car should switch gears without your noticing. If instead you hear a grinding sound, you may need a transmission repair.
- Delayed Response: If you notice a delay when you try to accelerate, this could be a sign that your transmission is slipping. Call your local auto repairs shop right away so they can get the problem taken care before it leads to further damage.
If you think your transmission is in trouble, let the technicians at your trusted auto repairs shop help you out. Delaying it can lead to bigger problems and costlier repairs.
