A Short Guide to Why Mold Remediation Is So Important

When you have mold in your home, or you think you might, one of the most important things you can do is to call a company who specializes in mold remediation. The longer you wait, the worst it can be for you and your family.  Let’s look at why mold remediation is so important.

Allergy & Irritation Caused by Mold

People who suffer from allergies are often more sensitive when it comes to mold compared to other people. If they have contact with or come near mold, it’s quite possible that they are going to experience one or more of the following symptoms.

  • Blocked or runny nose
  • Red & watery eyes
  • Dry cough
  • Rashes on the skin
  • Sore throat
  • Sinusitis
  • Wheezing

More severe allergies could even cause someone to have trouble breathing. Exposure to mold could also worsen lung problems or asthma for people who have existing lung problems.

A study in 2012 discovered that babies and younger children who had mold exposure in their home had a higher risk of being diagnosed with asthma by the time they reached age 7. They researched 36 kinds of mold and 289 homes.

Research by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) published in 2004 indicates that spending time in indoor spaces that are damp is related to respiratory symptoms, including asthma.

As you can see, starting on mold remediation as soon as possible is important when mold is suspected. This is especially important when you have people in your house who are young or who have existing health issues. It can only make them worse.
